What is Naver blog SEO?
You may be familiar with Google SEO which is more common than Naver optimization. Naver SEO is the Naver version of Google SEO. It is the technology to determine the rank where your posts appear on the user’s search results page.
What algorithms does Naver use?
Naver has two types of algorithms; C-Rank and DIA model. C-Rank is the algorithm increasing the accuracy of search rankings by evaluating how reliable the source is rather than quality of each post. Meanwhile, DIA algorithm assesses the quality content of each posts users prefer based on Naver database and its result is reflected in search rankings.
In short, C-Rank and DIA algorithms are complementary to each other. According to Naver statistics analysis, blog posts with high C-rank scores tend to receive high scores in DIA as well. Surprisingly, the research shows that even posts with low C-rank scores can appear at the top of search results if their DIA score is high.
Find out more about each Naver SEO algorithm below.
[1] What is Naver C-Rank?
? One-Line Summary
Does your blog have in-depth and reliable sources about specific topics?
C in C-Rank stands for “Context”, “Content”, and “Chain”. “Chain” is a process of how content has been created and seen by readers. C-Rank evaluates these three C factors in measuring popularity and credibility of blog posts. Rather than content itself, it’s about how reliable the blog or blogger is. C-Rank considers items such as blog collection, source credibility, usage patterns, etc. In other words, C-Rank shows the level of credibility of the blog itself.
You may ask, “Isn’t it meaningless if I am a new blogger? I can write good content, but what if the algorithm cannot trust my blog only because my blog is new.” Good point! Since C-Rank is determined not based on the quality of the content, new bloggers are less likely to rank higher even if they published high-quality and professional content.
That is why DIA algorithm has been made. See below.

[2] What is Naver DIA?
? One-Line Summary
Is the post helpful for users? Does it have in-depth information?
DIA is an abbreviation of “Deep Intent Analysis”. DIA puts more value into content users like. With C-Rank, Naver algorithms ensure both the quality of creator and content by analyzing the value of content itself. The algorithm reviews items such as relevancy to topics, uniqueness, purpose of writing and so on. These factors are updated on a regular basis as Naver deep learning system updates its database.
To schematize relation between DIA and C-Rank simply, it’s like:
Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), DIA algorithm learns the traits of popular content among users → DIA applied to each content by AI technology → C-Rank determines the source of the content → Combined with DIA results → Web results rank is determined

8 Strategies for new bloggers to increase blog traffic
1. Natural post title (Do not repeat same keywords)
Hashtags do not increase engagement. New bloggers often misunderstand this and spend a lot of time coming up with bright hashtags ideas. Rather, it is far more important to include keywords in the title and text of the posts. If you repeat the same keywords, the algorithms will catch unnatural context which means a lower chance to be seen. Do not forget to include keywords in the headline, but always keep a natural tone.
Example:
Hongdae best dining / Hongdae cafes (X) ? Do not repeat same keywords!
Hongdae must-go restaurant review (O) ? Perfect!
2. Communicate with other bloggers
Active networking is one of the ways to boost your blog score. Communication itself does not affect your score, but it helps to attract more bloggers so that the number of post views, comments and shares will increase. Of course, this is what the algorithm exactly likes.
There are several ways to connect with other bloggers. Maybe you can focus on the number of followers only. For example, browsing other blogs, you can just click “Ask for mutual friend” over and over again without knowing them. Or, you can narrow down candidates to find the blogger whom you would like to really connect with; maybe someone who has the same interest with you. There is no right or wrong answers. Try to find the right way for you.
For your information, Naver calls followers as “Neighbors (이웃)”. There are two types of followers; general neighbor (이웃, I-woot) and mutual neighbor (서로이웃, Seoro-iwoot). As many mutual followers you have, it is more likely to build bonding relationships.
? Tips for attracting Naver mutual followers
- When you “frequest” (서로이웃신청), let them know how much you are interested in their blogs. For example, you can say “I saw your Youtube” or “I am also interested in 000 like you” rather than generic greetings like “Let us be mutual friends!”.
- Make sure your blog is ready to go so that other bloggers get a glimpse of you. At least ten posts are recommended. If you can keep consistency on topics, that would be more than enough.
- Write a post to introduce your blog mentioning its purpose, reasons you start a blog, etc. And then, pin it as a notice on the top of your board. This way, you can make visitors trust you more.
- Leave comments or like posts of others before you request mutual followers. It is more likely to be accepted.
3. Write at least 1,500 characters
“Average time on post” is one of the factors Naver algorithm evaluates. It is the amount of time readers spend on each post. An opposite concept is called “Bounce rates”, a percentage of visitors who promptly leave the page without reading. Longer average time on post means readers enjoy your content and it often leads to reading other postings as well. That is why the number of characters matters. So, please make sure your each posting is 1,500 characters at minimum, and of course its content must be high-quality.

4. Photos are a must! Video is optional!
Photos are everything. There is no doubt photos play an essential rule in catching readers eye’s. But when it comes to the proper number of photos you should add, it is a little controversial. It is a good idea to search similar posts that appear on the top of results to see how many photos are used.
Photos that have not been used elsewhere are more advantageous. Like video, it is best if you upload photos taken yourself. Of course, the higher the resolution, the better.
5. Write constantly about specific topics
Personally, I think this is the most difficult task for new bloggers. It is easy to say, but hard to be done. Writing and updating good-quality content on a regular basis is the main key to success. You do not need to talk about many things. One topic is more than enough. Choose your own topic first and write about it consistently. It can be travel, food, fashion or whatever you want. It also helps to increase the reliability level of your blog.
What happens when you are running out of ideas? Do not worry. As long as your content is high-quality, your blog will be given high scores. For example, you can choose several topics that seem unrelated such as computers, cooking and flowers. However, for beginners, writing content on different subjects is too much. No rush, let us start writing about your favorite first.
6. Avoid changes after upload
Naver officially announced post-editing and deletion or the number of private posts do not affect algorithm evaluation. However, many bloggers insist it does. They experienced that their rank dropped after editing existing posts.
Normally, posts are reflected in Naver search results within 3 hours. Many bloggers believe any changes made beforehand does not affect the algorithms, but if you edit or delete the posts after reflection, it is likely to lower the rank.
Of course, the answer is never black and white. If you have just started a blog, it is a good idea to learn your own know-how by repeating trial and error.
7. Do not write on most-searched keywords (실시간 인기 검색어)
Lots of bloggers write about most-searched keywords to dramatically increase traffic to blogs. Unfortunately, the algorithm will identify it as an abnormal activity. For a very short time, you might be excited to see high traffic inflows, but it is no good in the long term. In the worst case, your blog could fall under the category of “Low-quality blogs”.
8. Create your own content
One of the characteristics of posts that do not appear on search results no matter how hard you try is when it is classified as “Re-written content”. Naver algorithms are designed to catch similar content to others. Take time to research information and write unique content.

Conclusion
Shortly, what matters the most is to create the content Naver likes, not the content you like. Then, what does Naver want? Naver wants what readers want.
High-quality content based on your own experience and good readability make your blog rank higher. Write it on a regular basis. Your posts soon will be shown up at the first page of results. Be patient. No need to update a lot of posts all at once.
It is about your attitude as a blogger, as well. Keep research and analyze your blog activity in many ways. Well, I am not proud of saying this in a post on how to increase blog traffic, but it is true that finding your own way to run a blog is far more important than just following tips online without thinking. I can assure you it will be your great asset one day.
Do not be too obsessed with the number of views from the beginning. If you consistently create your own killer content and overcome shortcomings by analyzing statistics of the blog, you can grow into a power blogger! Cheers to all creators in the world! ?
